The director attended the Venice Film Festival Press conference this month, where he openly expressed his admiration for Alfred Hitchcock. He spoke about a set of films by the English filmmaker and said that Hitchcock’s ways of staging films were what inspired him to do what he does. Anderson was true to his statements, as there have been numerous occasions where the filmmaker referenced Hitchcock in his movies. For instance, a train sequence from Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel is very similar to Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. However, the filmmaker tweaks it with his own artistic vision, which is a trademark of his distinctive style of direction. Even amidst the long streak of production delays, the director got a pass to come up with his upcoming flick, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

Despite pushing back many anticipated movies, Netflix will be releasing Anderson’s movie. The movie saw its premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival a few days back.
