Henry Cavill, who once upon a time boasted of the revered superhero, Superman, as his most iconic character, has now also added Geralt from The Witcher to the list of characters that just won’t stay the same without him. As news of his exit from both franchises came not long after each other, his fandom was engulfed in sorrow while the franchises were in controversies. But contrary to popular belief, his entries also lacked the same smoothness that his departures did.

Given how he has taken both Geralt and Superman to such great heights, quite literally for the latter, the reluctance surrounding his casting are easily forgotten. Except for the one that came from Cavill’s agent himself.

At the pinnacle of his career with DC’s Superman and a Mission Impossible movie alongside Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill decided to take on the role of Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation. A move that was met with much reluctance by fans not only of Cavill and Andrzej Sapkowski but also his agent. As per an interview that Cavill gave to The Hollywood Reporter in 2021, his agent had asked “Are you sure?” when he said yes to the role.

While it is unclear what went on in the agent’s head, it is reflective of the same scepticism that the actor was met with from fans of the books. And by the time they realized just how precious he was, the actor was already gone.

It seems through the interview that the odds were not in Henry Cavill’s favor even before Liam Hemsworth stepped into the picture. But if there is one actor who has bet the odds several times, it is Cavill.

Can Henry Cavill rise back after The Witcher fall?

An unavoidable question that would have followed any actor had they been dropped simultaneously from their two best-known works would be about the end of their career. However, Henry Cavill’s situation could not be any more different. It seemed that everyone had built a sanctuary in their hearts for the actor and his commendable devotion overnight. Not only did fans take to firing at DC and The Witcher, but they pledged to support Cavill on whatever path he takes next. Especially if the path aligned with the next James Bond.

Not one to overlook the love fans have for him, Henry Cavill has also been extra careful in picking roles. While he has booked himself potential blockbusters, he has also devoted himself to the making of Warhammer 40k franchise with Prime Studios, a long-time dream for the actor. Looks like he is not going to stop adding iconic names to his filmography anytime soon.
