Nearly two years ago, DC Studios announced Henry Cavill would no longer portray the Son of Kryptonite after James Gunn and Peter Safran wanted to reboot the character to focus on a young Clark Kent. Despite being tied to the Superman arc for years, Cavill was shown the exit due to the lack of his alignment in DCU’s new direction. Although Cavill hanging the super suit over DCU’s decision was met with incredible criticism, and upset, with time, the fans learned to come to terms with his successor.

Making adjustments to his dismissal was one thing. However, Gunn’s recent confirmation of Cavill’s Kryptonite suit’s destruction is entirely different.

There is no full list available of which actors suited up for auditioning James Gunn’s Superman, but Tom Brittney did. In a conversation with Hellish podcast, Brittney revealed it took him half an hour to get “sewn” into Henry Cavill’s suit, but accidentally “ripped it.” Following him, Gunn recently took to X, confirming “Tom messed it up.” However, when the actual Kryptonite successor, David Corenswet, came in, his towering height did the rest and the suit was “torn to shreds.”

Gunn seized the moment for a shout-out to Brittney, calling him one of his “favorite actors” with an incredible skill set. While Brittney joked by reasoning his more “muscular” figure than Cavill, despite missing out on the role himself, he praised the upcoming Superman, Corenswet. “I mean, the guy was born to play Superman,” Brittney said, adding how he exactly looks like him.

James Gunn brings a Superman update without Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill may not don the suit of Superman anymore, but the DCU has to do it without him. And just in time for fans’ hearty reception of the new Kryptonite, James Gunn brought a trailer update for Superman, releasing July 11, 2025. “When is the Superman trailer coming out?”, asked a fan on Instagram threads, leaning on the number of superhero trailers that have come out recently including Peacemaker season 2, Thunderbolts*, and more.

It did not take long for Gunn to respond to the fan query, saying, “It’s on my hard drive. But, seriously, all of those three projects come out months before us.” Gunn seemingly meant the trailer was ready, but it could still be some time before they released it to the audience. Nevertheless, here is hoping Cavill’s fans move past the suit destruction and enjoy Corenswet’s stepping in.
