The era of Henry Cavill starring in The Witcher will soon come to an end. As the second part of season three is only a few days away, it will be the last time that Cavill will grace the screen as the fan-favorite character of Geralt. The excitement of the second part arriving soon also marks the end of a pioneer character on the show. This also comes hand-in-hand with our favorite British actor, leaving behind his role as Superman, too. But these shows are not only where the famed actor has played heart-winning roles. The intrepid mystery drama starring this 40-year-old made many eyes turn.

The 40-year-old actor played the famous crime detective Sherlock Holmes in Millie Bobby Brown’s 2020 film Enola Holmes. This different take on the renowned character of the fictional detective residing at 221B Baker Street really appealed to the audience. The casting of the elder brother of Enola, Sherlock Holmes, came as a surprise even to Cavill. It is not a shock, as the actor is quite different in terms of build and previous roles compared to his other Holmes counterparts. But this British hunk never shies away from playing some iconic and challenging roles.
In a podcast with Josh Horowitz earlier in 2020, Cavill said that “it was the way Sherlock was utilized” that drew him to the story. The different take on the character and the message behind the movie, which would affect the newer generation in a positive way, made him fall in love with the character. He also discussed some of his wisdom while in talks with Horowitz.
As a mantra to keep himself in a positive space and not “go crazy,” the actor never compares himself to the great portrayal and performance that the fictitious character of Sherlock Holmes has enjoyed earlier. From Robert Downey Jr. to his British counterpart Benedict Cumberbatch, the role has seen it all. The Enola Holmes brother chose to instead just read the script and go “Yeah, this feels good” and embrace the different take on the character.
And embrace the character he did, as his acting coupled with the script shone light on a more human Sherlock Holmes.

Cavill takes a whole different take on the already existing characters of Sherlock Holmes. Holding true to his nature of the ‘consulting detective’ personality, he rather plays a slightly different story than we are used to. In Enola Holmes 2, we see a more self-aware Sherlock who admits his shortcomings.

Rather lonely, the famous pair of Watson and Sherlock only grace the scene at the end of the sequel. And all this plays a part in demonstrating how his younger sister, Enola, will turn out different from his brother.
