Henry Cavill Jumps Ship to a New Amazon Live-Action Role Amid 'Warhammer 40,000' Delays
2022 did not really end on a high note for Henry Cavill. After leaving The Witcher as his iconic Geralt and stepping away from his Superman franchise, fans wondered what was next for the British star. But just as the year was about to close, Games Workshop dropped the news that Cavill would lead and star in a Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe. Hopes were finally on the rise after the game developer struck a deal with Amazon Studios- until things took a turn, and the project was pushed into an endless delay.
With the Warhammer 40k project now hanging in limbo, Henry Cavill has signed on for yet another venture with Amazon Studios.

The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that Amazon MGM Studios has chosen Henry Cavill to lead Voltron. The movie would center around a group of pilots who control robots called Battle Lions that can come together to form the powerful Voltron. This film is Hollywood’s take on a Japanese sci-fi franchise, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the maker of the Ryan Reynolds starrer Red Notice on Netflix.
Cavill is the second actor brought on board, following newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, who won hearts with his West End performances alongside Tom Holland. This year, the 41-year-old has appeared in two action thrillers- Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He even made a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, this new role could mean more trouble for Cavill’s Warhammer 40K series.

Back in July, there were reports that the Warhammer 40K series might have a ticking clock hanging over it. In December 2023, Games Workshop set a deadline of 12 months to nail down “creative guidelines” by December 2024. If they miss that mark, Amazon will lose the rights to the project, and the anticipated passion project could end up getting canceled. And the deadline is just two months away.
Now, with the clock running down and the Voltron update, it is starting to look like Warhammer 40K may get lost in the shuffle. This might be a tough break for Henry Cavill, who is not only supposed to lead the franchise but is also expected to step into the role of executive producer for all parts of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise developed as Amazon Studios productions.
