Henry Cavill's Bond journey started with Casino Royale, where he tried out for the role but was passed over for being too young compared to Daniel Craig. Surprisingly, even after nearly two decades, Cavill still seems not quite age-appropriate for the role. During his recent visit to The Rich Eisen Show to talk about his latest The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, he revealed his hesitation about being potentially chosen for the next James Bond movie, saying, “Maybe I’m too old now”.
The Witcher star took on the role of Gus March-Phillipps in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, a character believed to have influenced Ian Fleming's creation of the spy, James Bond. However, currently, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's name has been most linked with 007, though nothing has been confirmed by his team yet. As for Cavill's casting, his path to becoming Bond has more than just age-related obstacles.
Henry Cavill's chances of landing the role of James Bond may have dwindled after he chose to star in another spy action franchise recently.

The mysterious and confusing advertising surrounding Argylle led to its dismal performance at the box office. And its release on Apple TV+ in April has not helped the franchise much. This underwhelming outcome does not really paint a rosy picture of Henry Cavill's ability to draw audiences and maintain his star stature. But an even more concerning point is if Cavill has already been a spy, especially in a role as eccentric as Agent Argylle, it might be tricky to imagine him as James Bond given the shared themes and genre.
Having already starred in high-budget productions costing hundreds of millions, Cavill may find that taking on the iconic role of Bond demands a fresh approach. While he has been a part of many successful franchises, his track record with spy movies has not yielded any major hits, except for his portrayal as an antagonist in the Mission Impossible franchise. When considering these factors alongside his age-related discussions, there is a chance that Cavill's dream of portraying James Bond might remain just that- a dream.
