According to report by IGN, At CitizenCon in Manchester, CIG boss Chris Roberts expressed 'confidence' in the single-player story game's launch timeline. A live gameplay demo showcased Squadron 42's prologue, featuring flashy cutscenes with Hollywood stars like Henry Cavill, Gillian Anderson, and Gary Oldman. The latest update on Squadron 42 reveals a 2026 release with 30-40 hours of gameplay.

Despite technical issues during the demo, including crashes and bugs, the audience got a glimpse of the game's first hour. The prologue includes on-rails turret action in a space battle and a first-person shooter segment. Cloud Imperium Games confirmed Squadron 42's 2026 launch, with The Witcher star on board as a lead role.

Squadron 42, a story-based single-player game, is set in the Star Citizen universe and touted as a "spiritual successor to Wing Commander." Henry Cavill stars as Ryan Enright alongside an all-star cast, including Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, and Andy Serkis. Highly anticipated by geek and Cavill fans alike, the game promises an immersive experience, given its multi-talented cast and richly detailed universe. 

As much as a shocker for some, Henry Cavill is a true video game nerd as he revealed in a 2019 GQ interview. Video games were not only one of his favorite pastimes but also a way to deal with the media pressure, said the Hollywood A-lister. Cavill shared that gaming provided an escape from this pressure, allowing him to stay at home and indulge in "ridiculous amounts of hours" of his most-liked gameplay, in which he has now added his acting prowess, making the most of it.
