If Henry Cavill steps into the iconic James Bond role, his fans would be happier than The Witcher star himself. Through his portrayal of Superman in Man of Steel, he showcased his ability to handle action sequences with finesse. Which makes him a natural fit for the high-octane world of espionage in the spy thriller. With him as Bond, viewers can expect a new rugged take on the character while staying true to the suave sophistication that defines 007.

But it seems like the 40-year-old’s chances are constantly dwindling with the constant introduction of new contenders like Tom Hardy and Aaron Taylor Johnson. And now another face that recently joined this list is quickly climbing to the top as well.

While many actors wish to nab the gadget-clad spy’s part, the final decision lies in the filmmakers’ hands who take into account the public’s opinion. According to Express UK, audiences have tipped the odds in favor of Outside The Wire actor Damson Idris. As he entered the odds chart, Idris even surpassed Peaky Binders’ Tom Hardy and Bridgertons Regé-Jean Page.

Meanwhile, Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy who had earlier also appeared on the list seems to have fallen behind to make room for new faces like Idris. Besides the Netflix sci-fi thriller, Outside The Wire, the 32-year-old is also known for his role in the hit FX series, Snowfall. Even as a lesser-known artist, the British-Nigerian actor has become a popular underdog for the role.

Damson Idris may have joined Henry Cavill in the top spot in the race to become Bond, but the man who played the part for 15 years probably has no idea. This is because Daniel Craig once declared that he pays no heed to the ongoing competition for the role he vacated. With Bond-like nonchalant charm, the 55-year-old revealed that he mostly avoids the internet and social media.

But Craig’s refusal to partake in the debates cannot stop the multitudes that are eager to finally see who bags the part. After all, the secret agent with a license to thrill has one of the biggest followings of any franchise in Hollywood.
