It would, however, surprise fans that the two share a similarity that transcends their undeniable good looks and screen brilliance. However, what is it?

The tales of the former Superman’s love for gaming and comics have been well-documented over the years. While he conquers screens with action-packed roles, in his off-screen lives, he indulges in pixelated battlefields and meticulously paints miniatures. Likewise, Manganiello is a huge fan of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons as he has proved many times like on Wired’s Q & A session. 

A self-proclaimed PC gamer, Cavill enjoys talking about Warhammer 40,000 and The Witcher 3. He has built his custom gaming rig and even engaged in online tournaments. As for Manganiello, he has made the basement of his home a haven for Dungeons & Dragons players. Their shared passion is not just a quirky hobby, but rather a core of who they are.

While Manganiello’s Dungeons & Dragons escapades are no less legendary in comparison to Cavill’s miniatures, many would not know that the actor almost played Superman, which broke the Enola Holmes star into mainstream stardom.

Joe Manganiello came close to playing Superman

In 2017, Joe Manganiello shared details on just how close he was to being cast in the title role of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. During his talk with the host of MTV’s Happy Sad Confused Podcast, revealed he came as far as costume measurements. “I met with Zack. I had an hour-and-a-half-long meeting with Zack, which is what was causing all the trouble,” he recalled.

He even met with other cast members, but it all came crashing down because of his commitment to True Blood. The actor said it took him a long time before he watched the superhero film, which of course passed to Cavill. Whatever the case may be, Manganiello has certainly built a career for himself and shown a tremendous amount of commitment to his work.
