‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’: How James Gunn’s Goodbye to MCU Sets Up High Hopes for His DC Takeover, Even After Henry Cavill Heartbreak
“Everyone deserves a second chance,” says Dave Bautista’s Drax in one of the most heartwarming scenes of the third and final movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. A film that made a bunch of nobodies into characters that fans love more than anything else. With his impeccable ability to merge emotions with humor, James Gunn delivered the most humane story with literal aliens. And that speaks about nothing but the brilliance of his storytelling ability.
Call it Marvel’s misfortune or DC’s fortune; Gunn is now set to jump ships, and ready to take over command for DC. And it is not hard to predict that the Suicide Squad director will paint the studios in his shades of grandeur. For anyone who wonders what James Gunn is capable of, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the perfect peek inside his gorgeous mind that conjures up tales of brilliance.

It was never a secret that the world had fallen in love with Rocket the Raccoon, at the very first sight. And to see his story unwind right in front of us was something we all wanted, but never really were ready for. But it was not only about fans’ love for the character but also the director’s. Hence, when James Gunn gave Rocket what he deserved, it came from his heart. Every single second in the film brings you a step closer to the foul-mouthed raccoon and his life; both before and after meeting his family of Guardians.
The final film in the trilogy not only bid farewell to the characters but also to James Gunn from Marvel. Although it confirmed Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord’s return and might bring back the gang again, despite the little DC tease from Gunn, it will never be the same. Because the very thread that stitched the fabric of this story will not be around. James Gunn goes out with a bang, the same way he entered MCU.
What James Gunn will bring to DCU?
Ever since James Gunn took DC’s reigns into his own hands, he has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism; be it for canning Henry Cavill‘s Superman return or Batgirl’s cancellation. If there is one thing DC always lacked, it is storytelling and a sense of connection between characters and fans. And who better to establish it than the man who made the entire world cry over a talking raccoon and a mumbling tree?
