George R. R. Martin Face Backlash for Calling Out the Changes in ‘House of the Dragon’ on His Now-Deleted Blog Post
George R. R. Martin, the mastermind behind the fantasy realms of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, has been quite careful about critiquing the adaptations- assuming that he knew the kind of backlash it might draw in. While he did drop hints about his grumbles over the makers straying from the book, he never made it too obvious- until now. In July, the author announced that he would soon share his thoughts on everything that has gone wrong with House of the Dragon, in detail.
As was promised, Martin recently took aim at the second season of House of the Dragon through his now-deleted blog post. He warned fans that the tweaks the creators made this season could cause problems down the road. Martin did not hold back and went on to comment on the mixed reactions to House of the Dragon’s 'Blood and Cheese' scene from the first episode of season two. While he showered the show with praise for its take, he conceded that book readers are right about the scene in the book being stronger.

Martin also highlighted how the creator, Ryan Condal explained the practical reasons behind these tweaks. He did not exactly sugarcoat his frustration with Condal, the show, and even HBO, whose budget has, as per Martin, caused the problems. However, his spoiler-filled breakdown of the massive butterfly effect the missing Maelor Targaryen will cause has not exactly sat well with the internet.
Fans of the adaptation have called out George R. R. Martin for criticizing the show and dropping major spoilers for those who have not read the books.
Fans do not seem to be siding with George R. R. Martin against HBO
For years, George R. R. Martin has used his blog to update fans on production and his next book. Fans are still waiting for him to finish The Winds of Winter, the next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series that inspired the TV shows. Instead, Martin has chosen to vent about House of the Dragon- even though this was certainly not the first time he did something like this. Now, people are telling the 75-year-old to focus on finishing his book instead of ruffling feathers.
Many fans have criticized Martin for his comments about the show and his push for the showrunners to stick to the original material.

Even HBO has jumped into the conversation about Martin’s blog post. The network explained that showrunners often have to make some difficult creative choices to satisfy the TV audience. Nonetheless, it is safe to say that no matter how well an adaptation is received or how faithful it is to the source, chances are it will going to piss someone off anyway.
