If Ryan Reynolds is the king of wit, then Blake Lively is undoubtedly the queen. Their fairy tale romance, bolstered by their no-holds-barred humor, has made July and August especially thrilling for fans who ship the power couple having shifted their prank wars to a box office battle. With Deadpool & Wolverine poised to hit the billion-dollar milestone this weekend, alongside the debut of It Ends With Us, reports already forecast fierce competition between the two films.

Although she appeared in both films, Lively made the tough call to set aside the R-rated Deadpool & Wolverine in true R-rated ways this weekend and instead focus on her romantic comedy.

It will be Blake Lively vs. Ryan Reynolds at the box office this weekend and the Gossip Girl alum has made it clear that her self-love is second to none. Despite predictions suggesting that It Ends With Us might overshadow Deadpool & Wolverine based on presales, Lively decided to vouch for her film, leaving her husband's $900 million Marvel hit on the back burner. In a light-hearted interview with Capital FM, Lively advised, “Don’t go see Deadpool & Wolverine this weekend; f**k that movie.”

Lively clarified that her playful urge to avoid Deadpool & Wolverine is limited to just this weekend, aiming to ensure a strong debut for It Ends With Us while also expressing her genuine affection for Deadpool & Wolverine. Given that she appears as Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine, Lively acknowledged she is positioned to achieve a top spot either way. Thus, whether Deadpool & Wolverine or It Ends With Us takes the #1 spot this weekend, Lively sees it as a win-win situation.

As of Friday's midday report, Deadline noted that Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds, maintains a significant lead over Blake Lively's It Ends With Us. The Disney/Marvel Studios release is projected to earn around $53 million in its third weekend, while the Sony Pictures release is expected to open in the mid-$40 million range. On Friday, plus previews, the romantic comedy has garnered $23.2 million, compared to $15 million for Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Justin Baldoni-directed rom-com earned $7 million in Thursday previews. Even if It Ends With Us does not surpass Deadpool & Wolverine to claim the #1 spot, its projected $40+ million opening weekend represents the best preview earnings for a female-driven film since COVID, surpassing other recent releases except Barbie ($22.3 million). Thus, It Ends With Us is already on track to make history and Lively knows it well.
