Prince Harry has always been known to be one of the boys. That is why it came as no surprise when the Duke created the Invictus Games back in 2014. But since then, the sporting event and the thirty-eight-year-old have come a long way. After the Duke and Duchess, Meghan Markle announced that they were doing another collaboration with Netflix, the couple stunned the world with a trailer of Heart of Invictus. A limited series project that aired on 30 August. But even though the series might be new, the event, Invictus Games, has been around for almost a decade.
However, after the series aired on Wednesday, it was the friends-like family connections that the Duke made during the most recent event in 2022 that caught the world’s attention.

In the latest episode of Prince Harry’s Heart of Invictus, there was a new connection between the Duke and a retired Navy corpsman that garnered attention. Gabriel George was a participant in the couple’s limited series and met Prince Harry, who recently surprised fans at a screening in the Netherlands back in 2022 during the filming.
In an interview with People, the athlete went on to explain just how close he and the Duke had gotten, even saying that a big factor is the “military connection” they both have.
Gabriel George, a participant in the Heart of Invictus, who had his right arm amputated after a motorcycle accident back in 2008, also went on to say that the event “added a lot of fuel” to his life. The athlete proved himself to be better than most at archery, swimming, and even rowing. But it was their love of swimming that bonded the two and also helped George ease the chronic pain in his shoulder, and it even led to a trip to Hawaii the same year.
But George went on to say that the event had made him want to get others involved in adaptive sports so they could feel the way he does. He also mentions that pickleball was his first pick, and when he shares it, he “can see the life come back” into other veterans, which sounds a lot like the reason Prince Harry started the event in the first place.
The reason behind Prince Harry’s Invictus Games
After serving in the British army for almost a decade, Prince Harry created the Invictus Games back in 2014, after being inspired by America’s Warrior Games, which was a sporting event for injured veterans. And after stepping away from Royal duties, the Duke was able to put more time into his event, whose last season was held last year.

But what started out as a way of helping wounded veterans get back out there soon turned into something even bigger. Following the Duke and Duchess’ contract with Netflix, they announced Heart of Invictus, which provided participants with a much larger platform than they had before. And from what Gabriel George feels about the event, it is evident that the Duke and Duchess have done exactly what they had intended. It was even announced that the next Invictus Games would be held in sometime in September of this year.
