‘Friends’ David Schwimmer Once Spilled the Beans About His “jarring experience” With Fame

Entering into Hollywood, the very first desire of any actor is to be famous. While the majority of them easily adjust to fame and attention, there are some actors who do not find it easy. The Friends star, David Schwimmer, is one of them. The beloved American actor portrayed the character of Ross Geller, which earned him global recognition. He became so famous with the character that the Intelligence actor became the first one to receive offers from filmmakers at the time.
With the increasing fame after the NBC sitcom, while it gave a boost to his career, Schwimmer had a contradictory experience. How did all the attention affect the actor?

As soon as Friends took off, all the cast members started getting a lot of attention. However, the 56-year-old star did not like how his stardom was affecting his relations and his life as well. During his interview with The Hollywood Reporter for Awards Chatter podcast in 2016, he opened up about his experiences. Schwimmer revealed, “It was pretty jarring and it messed with my relationship to other people,” which took time for him to be comfortable with.

When he started getting a lot of attention, he was just 27. Therefore, this transition to becoming a celebrity became a little harder for him. Continuing his conversation, the Band of Brothers actor recalled how, as an actor, he was trained to observe life and people. He used to really engage himself in the process of doing so. However, the celebrity charm changed everything for him.
After a point, as the SAG Award-winning star revealed, he started hiding from people instead of being able to watch them. Hee also began to worry about the role he was going to play after Friends. Portraying the same character for 10 years categorized the actor. But he soon took over other roles in films like The Pallbearer and Band of Brothers. While still on the show, Schwimmer had already directed 10 episodes as well.
While it gave him exposure on his resume, it also benefited someone from the show as well.

Among those 10 episodes throughout the series, the Emmy-nominated actor directed episode 9 of season 7. The One with All the Candy featured Lin as an extra. As a director, Schwimmer came in to give instructions where he addressed Lin by her name. This slight gesture by this actor made the writer feel seen.
The reason it meant the most to the writer was that she did not have a good time working on the show. She revealed working on Friends was not at all a dream job. Therefore, it was hard for her to survive with all the difficulties. But this beautiful gesture by the Duane Hopwood actor made it easier for her.
