Following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Failed Spotify Deal, the Company’s CEO Hints That “consumers” Were Not “happy”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been in the spotlight ever since the early courting days of their relationship. However, over the years, the couple has branched out of the Royal Family and has built their own brand. In fact, they even started their own production company, Archewell Productions. While the Sussex couple seem to be on a roll with their projects now, earlier this year, they hit a snag when their Spotify deal fell through.
Months after their failed Spotify deal, the CEO of the company has decided to clear the air. In an attempt to dial down the confusion, he recently revealed why the couple’s podcast had to be put on the chopping block.

In a recent interview with BBC, Spotify founder, Daniel Ek revealed why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s podcast deal had ended. He also discussed the list of podcast partnerships that had been ended along with theirs. The interviewer asked the founder if the $20 million price tag was worth it. He answered that Spotify initially went into the deal as they believed in “giving new creators an opportunity.” They also thought they could bring something that made “consumers very happy” but unfortunately, it was not meant to be.
Ek continued by acknowledging that some of the plans worked but “some of it hasn’t.” However, the CEO kept things professional at the end of his interview and wished “the best of success” to the podcasts and partnership that the company had chosen not to go forward with. The revelation comes four months after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s deal was terminated, and fans are still confused as the podcast became number 1 on Spotify’s international charts.
After a nearly 3 year long deal, Spotify stunned the world back in June when they decided not to renew the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s podcast.

Around the end of 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who were recently called “grifters” on another podcast, signed a deal with Spotify. This announcement came shortly after the couple had decided to step down from their royal duties and stunned their supporters. After making their plans to become financially independent known, the couple jumped into their podcast, Archetypes.
The podcast series featured many of Markle’s celebrity friends. They even discussed the stereotypes women had to go through. But after only 12 short episodes in a 2-year span, the podcast was taken off Spotify’s list. However, when the podcast was not renewed, the speculations about why the show was canceled started swirling. It would seem that months later fans now have finally gotten their reasons.
