Despite Marvel Studios’ intentions of reinventing its catalog with quality releases, the setbacks encountered have no signs of waning. However, following Jonathan Majors’ exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rumors began to fuel that Kang would be sidelined as the Multiverse’s chief nemesis. Since Jonathan Majors departed from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has been significant debate about who could become the next big bad of the Multiverse if no one were to replace him. While Doctor Doom and Galactus emerged as plausible choices, the lack of confirmation made their chances slim. However, Daniel Richtman recently posted on his Patreon that Marvel Studios has officially found a replacement for Majors' Kang the Conqueror, the Multiverse's arch-enemy for the upcoming Avengers 5.
According to a post by Rejected Scooper on X, Kang has not been replaced as the main villain but has been recast with a new actor. Recently, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned Kang's removal from the title of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, now simply Avengers 5, suggesting that the studio was moving away from both Majors and Kang. However, the latest report indicates that Kang will still be present in the movie, albeit possibly not as the primary villain, thanks to the recasting.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the next actor to play Kang, there have been exciting updates regarding the directors for Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joe and Anthony Russo, better known as the Russo brothers, who directed the blockbuster hits Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, might return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The filmmaking duo is reportedly in early talks with Marvel Studios to direct the 2026 Avengers film (formerly The Kang Dynasty) and 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars, which will conclude the MCU's Multiverse Saga.
The films are expected to be interconnected, similar to the two-part story of 2018’s Infinity War and 2019’s Endgame. While the studio's production timeline for the upcoming Avengers films is still unclear, the recent news about having found a recast for Jonathan Majors’ Kang suggests that production may not be far off. However, fans should stay tuned for more updates, as Marvel Studios continues to make significant announcements.
