Florence Pugh Teases a First Glimpse of Marvel’s Upcoming 2025 Film ‘Thunderbolts'

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige planted the seed of Thunderbolts at San Diego Comic-Con about a year and a half ago, promising a 2024 release. However, due to last year's Hollywood strikes, the release was pushed back to July 25, 2025. Now, Florence Pugh has given fans a taste of what is to come by opening a window into the world of Thunderbolts, assuming the role of a vlogger for a day.

The actress shared the first official look of Yelena Belova, a character she first played in Black Widow and returned to in the Disney+ series Hawkeye.

Florence Pugh recently lifted the curtain on the world of Thunderbolts that has been veiled for years now. She recorded a video from the Atlanta studio, "sneakily", where Thunderbolts is currently in full swing. With a mischievous twinkle in her eye, the Oppenheimer actress showed bits of the set she had sworn to keep quiet about, including some of the structures that were being erected for the movie. Well, until she bumped into director Jake Schreier along the way.

"I don’t even think you’re supposed to be doing this," the director teased Pugh when she panned to a playback monitor. Pugh's video also showed a peek at a crew member's chair, sparking curiosity about why the Thunderbolts title had an asterisk next to it. Plot details for Marvel's movie adaptation of the comic with the same title are still under wraps. However, it appears that the movie is already carrying a heavy load of its massive commitment.

Marvel's decision to exclude Thaddeus Ross and Tiamut Island from the film has caused concern among fans for multiple reasons. Firstly, the lack of follow-up on the Tiamut incident from Eternals, despite its notable consequences, is puzzling. Secondly, reports indicate a significant role for Thaddeus Ross in Captain America: New World Order, with Harrison Ford joining the MCU to portray him.  Yet, what disappointed fans the most is the reported origin of the Thunderbolts' team name.

Reports suggest that the name will draw inspiration from a childhood soccer team of Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, a detail that many found disappointing. Furthermore, there will be a lot of changes in the universe with the new phase beginning, as even David Harbour teased, which is also a reason to be on the nerves. Nonetheless, if handled correctly, Thunderbolts could be Marvel's chance to bounce back from the ashes of the Madame Web disappointment.
