"Flop incoming"- Fans Predict an Ill-Fated Future as Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi’s 'Wuthering Heights' Gets a Release Schedule

Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are practically the poster kids for Hollywood’s picture-perfect duo. One would think that putting them together on screen would be a chemistry explosion. But the project that Hollywood picked to unite these two stunners has become a bit of a mess now. Robbie and Elordi’s casting in the upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation has been dogged by accusations of miscasting from the very start. Now, people are so skeptical that they are ready to declare the movie a flop before it has even hit the editing room.

Warner Bros. Pictures recently announced a very romantic release schedule for the upcoming Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights. They shared on Instagram that the high-profile project will be released on February 13, 2026, which is the Valentine weekend. Instead of celebrating, however, fans expressed skepticism. The cast for the project was announced in September this year, and it left fans of the gothic novel far from impressed. Many fans argued that the actors were miscast in their roles as Heathcliff and Catherine.

Heathcliff is explicitly referred to as a mixed-race, brown-skinned man. And the choice of casting a white man for the role did not earn positive response from fans. Even Robbie’s casting as Catherine was questioned as the character in the book was depicted as a young teenager, while the Barbie actress is currently in her mid-30s. And now fans have reiterated their feelings towards the movie yet again.

Jacob Elordi’s Dramatic Beard Look Debut Ahead of His ‘Wuthering Heights’ Role Leaves Fans Disappointed

As soon as the release date for Wuthering Heights dropped, fans took to X, expressing why the movie could never be a success.

Fans are highly skeptical of Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights

Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie’s casting in Wuthering Heights has been said to be a classic case of 'Twitter Casting'. The reason being that they are both super popular, ridiculously good-looking A-listers, but their previous roles do not exactly line up with the characters they are supposed to play next. To make matters worse, both Robbie and Elordi are Australian, and people are wondering if they will be able to nail the tricky Yorkshire dialect. With all these question marks, fans are already thinking the upcoming adaptation is set to flop.

That said, many fans are still on board and have expressed excitement with the reveal of the release date.

Book adaptations always come with the risk of disappointing fans. If the backlash on the Colleen Hoover adaptation was so intense earlier this year, one can only imagine how critical fans would be with an Emily Brontë classic. Even though the movie is a long way from its release date, based on the reaction to just the announcements, it is tough to say if Emerald Fennell’s vision will hit the mark with fans.
