The director who gave audiences Kingsman: The Secret Service, Matthew Vaughn, is about to gift the world another nail-biting espionage thriller through Argylle next month. Vaughn described this Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa starrer as a ‘very meta’ project in an interview with Josh Horowitz, leaving the film shrouded in mystery. What he meant by ‘meta’ may have left the plot open to interpretation, but there are some known aspects of the upcoming movie that can help audiences set their expectations accordingly.

Here are five facts about the movie that are bound to make one itch to catch it in theaters on 2nd February.

A mind-boggling storyline

One thing that viewers can gauge from Argylle’s trailer is that it takes a story-within-a-story approach. While it gives the illusion of a mystery surrounding the identity of the real Agent Argylle in the trailer, the movie is supposedly far more complex. In a way, the film follows the saga of a cat chase as the ‘villains’ attempt to capture the main character and her kitty, who is named Alfie.

With two Argylles with interconnected fates, the film poses the ultimate question of what is going on here. The antagonist played by Bryan Cranston hatches a sinister scheme, the end goal of which will be revealed in the culmination. The intricate streams of storylines running parallel to each other are what will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Another thing that makes this flick a must-watch is the presence of a certain Brit, known for his stellar acting skills.

Henry Cavill debuts as a spy

Among the many A-list actors that headline the movie’s cast is Man of Steel legend, Henry Cavill. Fans of this British celebrity know full well of his aspirations to portray a suave spy considering how he has vied for the 007 role for decades. Through Argylle, the 40-year-old has finally been granted his wish to do so as he headlines the flick as a fictional agent from a book.

The movie’s trailer suggests a plethora of action-packed sequences with The Witcher actor front and center. With his impressive physique and stunt work skills that certainly fit this high-octane part, Cavill is expected to ace the role in his signature brooding hero style. This alone is bound to lend the movie a gripping narrative and riveting sequences.

Besides Cavill, another action hero who will light up the screen alongside Dua Lipa is John Cena.

Dua Lipa and John Cena’s on-screen chemistry

As characters in the book the movie centers around, Dua Lipa and John Cena’s characters are interlinked with each other. The WWE sensation, who has become a reigning champion of action flicks, widened his palette last year by making a charming cameo in the blockbuster hit Barbie alongside Lipa. After their short stint as mermaids in Barbie, these mega celebrities will showcase a much more in-depth on-screen chemistry in Argylle now.

Over the last decade, the 46-year-old former wrestler impressed audiences with his features in the Fast and Furious franchise. Well, his role in this spy flick will mirror similar action sequences, judging by the trailer. Meanwhile, the ‘One Kiss’ singer is making her debut in a main role as a feisty lady in Argylle. How well their talents complement each other remains to be seen.

It is not only Dua Lipa who is trying her hands at full-fledged acting for the first time, though.

Matthew Vaughn introduces a new actor

Amongst the many big names that Argylle features, one character that is central to the plot is in fact played by a newcomer. Well, this new face is none other than Chip aka Alfie the cat. The little feline who steals the spotlight in many shots with its winks and animated gestures is none other than Matthew Vaughn’s daughter’s cat

Despite it being Chip’s first Hollywood project, the little one is believed to have quite the spoiled star attitude. Apparently, it kept running off between shots so much that the director had to track it with a GPS tag! The trailer does paint Alfie as quite the mischievous presence, so maybe the newbie Chip was just method acting.
