Stephen King may be one of the world’s best thriller authors, but just like everyone else, he too loves sharing his opinion on other people’s work. Earlier this year, he made it public that he disagreed with Netflix’s decision to split the fourth season of Stranger Things into two parts. But now the best-seller has revealed that another Netflix series has stolen his heart. Though it may be one that might surprise most people, the author claimed that he “loved it”.
The Shining author stunned his social media followers when he posted an update about the latest show that he was hooked on. While it may have swayed far from the usual shows, it was right up the alley of King.

Stephen King recently posted to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share his latest Netflix binge. He announced to his followers that his favorite show at the moment was Matthew Broderick’s newest project, Painkiller. The six-episode limited series showed viewers the effects of OxyContin and how the drug ever came to be. In a series that is filled with addiction and death, it is surprising that King found something relatable.
PAINKILLER (Netflix): After getting smashed up in 1999, the docs said, "We have this wonderful new drug for pain called OxyContin. You'll like it." Like it? I loved it. Almost to death. I could relate to everything in that series.

He also revealed that he was also caught up in the opioid epidemic like most of America. While the show may have been sad, it told people the truth behind the origins of the drug. While it may be surprising that King’s favorites are not his adaptations, the author has not been shy about outing the ones he has problems with.
This sudden shocking revelation came only a few months after Stephen King shared the sentiments of Stranger Things fans when the fourth season was split.

The new season of STRANGER THINGS is really cool–as good or better than the previous three. There's even a CARRIE riff.
Is it the whole season or is it another one of those that's broken into 2 parts? IMHO that's kind of lame.— Stephen King (@StephenKing) June 1, 2022
Shortly after, he garnered a response from the writers of the fourth season, who had also paid homage to the author in the latest season. The response began with “Uncle Stevie” and melted hearts. They went on to explain that the 8th and 9th episodes had not been finished at the time, but they were glad he was enjoying it.
