$5000000 Worth Meghan Markle’s Rachel Zane Could’ve Done Much More on ‘Suits’ if She Wasn’t Just a Girlfriend
Netflix and their partnership with the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex or anything associated with them have proved beneficial to both sides. As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle re-establish their firm foot in the industry, Netflix enjoys the perks of the re-surging Suits obsession amongst the audience. It is no doubt that the US network legal drama took Markle to the zenith of her stardom. However, what she fetched is nowhere remotely close to what she could have if her character arc was taken care of.
First aired in 2011, Meghan Markle bagged the first even main character role in years of her profession and soon catapulted to be an emerging TV actress amongst a sea of others. However, what the show writer Aaron Korsh did was a “disservice” to her character.

In light of setting back-to-back streaming records years after it ended, the latest issue by Collider has weighed in on the big picture of Meghan Markle’s Rachel Zane. According to the publication, although Zane aspiring to become a lawyer forms most of the riveting plot lines, it could have been more. The record-breaking show does not run short of gripping heated legal battles and complicated storylines that keep us hooked at the edge of our seats.
However, following the build-up of Mike Ross and Rachel Zane’s romantic development, Markle’s character runs out of her multidimensional array. Her primary goal of establishing herself as a top-tier lawyer in New York City, although fructifies, takes a back seat behind her romantic engagement. At a point where Mike Ross played by Patrick J. Adams dominates the plot, Rachel Zane’s initial drive stutters to find light in the romantic alleyway.
Suits misses on Zane’s family background and leaves friendship arcs untapped
Rachel Zane stands on the pedestal made of some of the most pivotal characters that form her narrative in the show. About her family, only a handful of details receive daylight since all we learn is from the title tattle conversation between Rachel and Mike themselves. While they gradually start to break the fourth wall, Markle hints at the complex relationship she shares with her father.

It is way later, during the final face-to-face between the father and the daughter, that we know that part of the narrative had the potential to add more. Even then, the pro bono case casts Mike Ross as the man of the moment since it was only for him that Rachel’s father gets his hands back on the case. Moreover, little to no details of her mother arise in the show, leaving her domestic life completely unexplored.
Other side characters who contributed way too much to the show suffered abandonment midway. Markle’s character had a possibly refreshing friendship with Sarah Rafferty’s Donna Paulsen. However, the camaraderie never took the helm as we hoped, since the plot completely delved into the romantic affiliation between the leads.
