28 years ago Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry gave us friendship and bromance goals with Friends. With characters as iconic as Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing, the duo’s bond was something to marvel at for more reasons than one. Not only was the on-screen friendship wholesome, but it also seeped into real life, with Perry and LeBlanc being no less than brothers. This was the case with other cast members of the hit show, as well. So much so that the like of Jennifer Aniston is reeling with Perry’s shocking demise mere weeks ago.

While the entire cast still mourns their friend’s departure in silence, LeBlanc became the first to write a note. And there was no better way to send off our beloved Chandler Bing.

When Matthew Perry left the world on October 28th, it was a shock for a world that grew up watching him shine as Chandler Bing. But, clearly, the cast members of Friends, who spent 10 years on set with him and remained his lifelong friends, were understandably crushed. While there were reports about Aniston’s deep sorrow over the loss, Matt LeBlanc, Perry’s eternal BFF on screen, became the first cast member to express it on the Internet with his latest Instagram post, where he bid adieu with a “heavy heart.

In his latest post (his first one since January this year), LeBlanc shared stills from the show, spanning seasons 2, 4, 6, and 10 along with a huddle featuring all cast members. But two things stood out in the post. The first one was the caption itself in which he urged his late friend to “spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free” before reminding him of the “20 bucks you owe me.”

The other thing was the stills themselves, which were from episodes that depict the beauty of the friendship Joey and Chandler shared, especially this one episode featured in the post.

There was unlikely something more iconic than Joey and Chandler’s friendship in Friends. And there was a clear reason why: their utter acceptance of and love for each other. No other episode was a testament to that than The Last One. From the name, it is easy to gather that we are talking about the heartbreaking finale that now just hits you differently after Perry’s death. But from their working together to rescue the baby chick and duck to their cool-guy handshake and tight hug afterward, the episode was an ode to the famous bromance.

But in his post, along with a still from the finale, LeBlanc also shared a picture from Season 6’s The One with Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E., featuring a make-up hug after Chandler had, earlier in the episode, missed relaying an important message to Joey. What’s special about the episode was the flashbacks to all the times they messed up and all their wholesome hugs: A visual representation of their mutual care and acceptance.
