Netflix’s streaming frenzy may have put Suits on the map once again, but for Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams, the legal drama was an entry to the bigger world of showbiz. Although the hype led to a spin-off, the chemistry that Rachel Zane and Mike Ross brought to the fold lives rent-free in the fans’ minds. Patrick J. Adams recently appeared for a conversation with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on Dinner’s On Me to open up about his departure from the critically acclaimed legal drama, Suits, starring Meghan Markle. The host probed him about his farewell from the show as early as the seventh installment, despite it running for two more seasons. Adams confessed that he “felt done” because he had nothing more to offer, but when the Duchess suggested he should go, he “sort of” went with that advice.
Reflecting on his portrayal of Mike Ross in Suits, Adams noted that the character’s initial mystique, rooted in secrecy and deception, gradually unraveled over seven seasons. By the end of the installment, he was nothing more than a straightforward lawyer. With his storyline exhausted and feeling creatively tapped out, Adams decided it was time to move on. However, he admitted that he had his heart out for everyone on the show.
Markle’s decision may have pushed Adams to get firm on his decision since creative blockage brings no good to an artist, but even now, all he has is praises for their on-screen chemistry and the Duchess’ talent.
Patrick J. Adams on Meghan Markle’s audition for Suits
Meghan Markle may not have graced a Suits reunion or even SiriusXM's Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast, but her references have found more than one entry point. In an October episode of the podcast, Patrick J. Adams recalled being tasked to conduct chemistry read-throughs with actresses auditioning for Rachel Zane’s role since he was the first actor to join Suits. Reminiscing her audition, Adams could not resist exclaiming that “she crushed it.”

Adams recalled how they instantly recognized each other from the 2008 crime comedy pilot Good Behavior. While their previous connection made their on-screen chemistry all the more “natural,” Adams also added how effortless it was with Markle compared to anyone else. In fact, when both of them departed from the show the same year, there was a noticeable drop in the viewership. Thus, it is not exactly surprising that both shaped each other’s journey in ways that are yet to be revealed.
