Following the polarity surrounding Disney’s Ironheart, comic geeks recently dug up a 2019 Robert Downey Jr. remark to counter the archival hatred for the comic character. Ironheart is not the first Marvel character to take a hit from critics, but fans know the best defense is offense. Thus, why stray elsewhere when the true iron heart belongs to this comic camp?

Whether everyone likes it or not, Disney is almost ready to introduce Iron Man’s new MCU successor, Ironheart aka Riri Williams. But before the streamer rolls out the red carpet, fans cannot help but break the silence on the ongoing ostracism. To ensure the retorts hit the sweet spot, an X user recently dug underground into pages of the social past, bringing back the memories of Robert Downey Jr.’s comic advocacy for Ironheart to join the MCU in 2019. 

Marvel comics writer Eve L. Ewing shared on social media that while Robert Downey Jr. accepted a prize at the Gene Siskel Film Center’s Renaissance Gala in Chicago, he voiced the need for Ironheart’s integration in the MCU in a room full of people. Ewing created the Ironheart superhero with fellow writers Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato. “I went straight back to the press area afterward and was like YOU ALL HEARD IT, WRITE THAT DOWN,” she wrote on social media.

Though Ironheart remains one of the most hotly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe projects of the year, the revisit helps lessen the propensity of split excitement around the character’s return to the big screen.

Riri Williams was officially inaugurated as an Avengers-level superhero by Wakandans in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. But with Ironheart ready to pierce through Marvel’s cosmic momentum with her own miniseries, the excitement has been as heightening as the uncertainty. Although Disney is about to test the waters with Ironheart as an independent superhero, one has to give it to the fans’ combat mechanisms with Robert Downey Jr. at the frontline.

While the skeptics may remain, the recount has undeniably bolstered fans’ confidence in Ironheart’s forthcoming era.

Meanwhile, a few folks tried to reach the roots of the hatred for Ironheart, citing the dichotomy of her character’s popular perspective from then and now. Yet, when the support comes with a rationale, the hatred is not too far behind. As a result, despite the possibility of a silver lining, the fandom seems very tight in its beliefs. However, it is ultimately on Ironheart to ensure she has it in her to melt the iron arrows.
