Fans See Tom Holland Edging Closer to Being “Zendaya’s stay at home dad” With His New Movie ‘American Speed'

Tom Holland and Zendaya, Hollywood’s sweethearts, have set the bar high for love stories in the trying entertainment industry, all while keeping things low-key. The two have truly stood the test of time since their days as co-stars in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2016. However, over the years, while Zendaya has gone on to experiment in different genres, Holland’s career outside of the MCU has been arguably disappointing. Recently, fans have hopped onto another chance to point that out.

A new report from The Insneider revealed that Tom Holland and Austin Butler are teaming up to play smuggling brothers in American Speed, which will be produced by Charles Roven and his Atlas Entertainment banner. And fans have declared that this is Holland’s last shot at redemption. Should he fail to prove himself as a versatile and nuanced actor again, “he's becoming Zendaya’s stay at home dad.” While Holland’s efforts at serious roles have been hit-or-miss, Zendaya has not only been making waves commercially but also critically.

Zendaya’s Dune: Part Two became one of the biggest films of the year and grossed $711.8 million. She also won hearts with her complex and nuanced performance in the romantic sports drama, Challengers. However, her real claim to fame was Euphoria, which earned her both a Golden Globe and an Emmy. Therefore, when stacked her success up against Holland’s, it is hard to argue that he is not a step or two behind.

Fans try to place Tom Holland in Zendaya’s shadow

Some of Tom Holland's recent attempts to prove his acting chops have failed to win over audiences and critics. This includes Cherry and The Devil All the Time. Then finally came The Crowded Room, a 10-hour psychological thriller on Apple TV+, which seemed like a golden opportunity for the actor to turn things around, but it ended up following the same path. After a string of misfires, people are now starting to wonder if Holland can really find his footing outside the MCU, and what his dynamic with the sensational Zendaya could be.

Many fans also pointed out that Holland is literally the face of Spider-Man and could easily keep playing the role for the next thirty years.

While some are skeptical about his future as an actor beyond the Spider-Man franchise, Zendaya told Vogue she “could not be more proud” of her partner. Her praise came after Holland's return to the stage with his well-received Romeo & Juliet play. Given how Zendaya has been cheering him on and attending his plays whenever she can, it seems the online chatter might not bother Holland too much.
