Fans Pit MCU’s “1960’s mothers” Following the New Trailer Release of ‘Fantastic Four’ Flick
Fantastic Four, officially titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is finally heading to theaters. As one of the most legendary superhero teams in comic book history, with a legacy as rich as a treasure chest, fans have been counting down the days for the MCU to bring these iconic heroes of the foundational Marvel team into the fold. And now, just as MCU finally offered a little taste of the upcoming movie, someone who instantly caught everyone's attention was Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm. In fact, some are even comparing her to another MCU darling.
Fantastic Four, hitting theaters on July 25 this year, just dropped its first trailer. In it, we see Kirby, who is taking the torch from Jessica Alba and Kate Mara, in her Susan Storm getup— which was somewhat different than what fans had expected. Soon, fans jumped in to pit her against another 1960s superheroine—Wanda. Elizabeth Olsen's costume in WandaVision was loved by comic book fans as it perfectly captured the aesthetic of each era shown in the series. The costume also evolved alongside her character’s emotional journey.

It blended the right amount of classic elegance, all while giving us that unforgettable Scarlet Witch look in the finale. Fans also loved the fact that the costumes were not overly revealing and felt much truer to the character, especially compared to some earlier versions. And now, fans have thrown these two "1960's mothers" into the ring against each other to decide who has nailed that era's vibe better.
While they loved both Susan and Wanda’s looks, and hailed them as "queens", many have crowned one as the more era-appropriate choice.
The Fantastic Four trailer has fans choosing the best 60s superheroine look
Marvel's First Family is finally making its debut in the MCU—though not quite where you would expect. They are stepping in through an alternate timeline instead of the main one. The first trailer hinted at a fascinating retro-futuristic world that somehow felt both old-school and cutting-edge all at once. And that same ‘bit of both’ feeling seems to apply to how fans are seeing Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm too. Some think Susan’s hair could not nail the retro look and instead feels more suited for 2025, especially when compared to Wanda's style.
Even though both are queens in their own right, many have hailed Elizabeth Olsen’s look as more fitting for the era depicted.

The costumes for the Fantastic Four movie are also turning heads for the same reason. Each of their suits respectfully nodded to the original comic designs while seamlessly fitting into a contemporary context as well. And it is a smart decision too. If Marvel’s First Family ever leaps into Earth-616, as many fans are hoping, their look will blend in easily without needing a wardrobe overhaul.
