Fans Left Baffled as Warner Bros. Remains Adamant on ‘Dune 2’ for 2025 Oscars, Despite Its Ineligibility
With the Academy Awards 2024 being larger than life as they carried Oppenheimer and Barbie, better known as the greatest warriors of the past year, to their ultimate destination, the shift from the Barbenheimer discussion to that of Oscars 2025 warranted little time. However, the first wave of shock has already begun to brew in as Warner Bros. has made an unconventional decision, hoping that the Academy would do the same.
While this year tried to fit the large shoes left by last year's cinematic imprint to its best, certain movies could not meet the standards set by their own predecessor, and this includes Dune: Part Two. However, the creators have remained as unrelenting as ever as they push the movie for Best Original Score at the Oscars 2025 according to Variety despite failing to meet the eligibility criteria, leaving fans scratching their heads.

Denis Villeneuve, the genius behind the movie, has shown guardian-like devotion to his cinematic offspring and is continuing to advocate for the sequel. The Dune franchise has been looked at from every which way, that is both commercial and critical, therefore while it makes sense to push for the movie to be awarded its inability to meet the eligibility criteria raises questions.
Cinephiles, who are well versed with the Oscar playbook as well as the credit points that Villeneuve has acquired, rushed to pick up their pitchforks at the announcement.
Warner Bros. confuses fans with its Dune 2 for Oscars 2025 advocacy
The decision to submit a movie for the Oscars is no light one, irrespective of the category. Therefore, Dune: Part Two's submission, despite the rules of the Academy being pretty clear, is a very risky one. In the several decades that the Oscars have awarded brilliance, there has rarely ever been an amendment in their ways. However, given how even Ryan Reynolds is pushing for a vital change at the Oscar 2025, who knows if Dune: Part Two might also strike lightning in a bottle.
While some fans applauded the studio for pushing forth with Dune 2, others were very skeptical of how it would ever work.
