A cultural touchstone that has transcended many generations, Friends is among those rare timeless sitcoms that can never be replaced in its fans’ hearts. For the millions of its worldwide fanatics, the show offered a comforting escape into the lives of the six inseparable friends. Each moment, whether hilarious or touching, emerged from its treasured themes of friendship, love, and self-discovery. So, even in the realm of ‘hypothetically speaking’,  its fan base would not sacrifice any one moment of the precious series.

Still, they were faced with this very daunting scenario on social media recently. 

The impossible Friends conundrum

In a recent post that appeared on Facebook earlier today, a fan-run page asked its fanbase if they were forced to pick among some of its most iconic scenes, which would they be willing to part with. One option was the series finale in which the Central Perk gang stood in Monica’s vacated apartment with heavy hearts. Another was the season six finale in which Chandler and Monica both get on their knees to propose to each other. 

Also included was one of the series’ many hilarious Thanksgiving episodes in which Ross and Monica revealed each other’s long-held secrets to a stunned audience. Next came the boys vs. girls quiz that had viewers on the edge of their seats. Another season finale that appeared was when Rachel accepts her ‘lobster’ Ross. Lastly came the sequence in which Rachel and Phoebe catch Monica and Chandler in the act.

As difficult as it was, fans settled for their chosen picks among these six.

The top pick ended up being the show’s finale, which if taken out would save everybody the heartbreak of Friends ever ending. Another option that users rallied behind was the “lobster” one in which Rachel kisses Ross for the first time. One user argued that the Mondler proposal was not “funny” enough. However, others disagreed since it was “adorable” and showcased Chandler’s growth in the series. 

According to one user, the Thanksgiving episode was the least “important” of them all. Meanwhile, another fan confessed that the quiz was clearly not a “favorite” of most. One user even suggested that the “breakup” between Ross and Rachel which was brought upon by their debated ‘break’ should have been included in the post’s list. Evidently, the comments section of this post was like a bittersweet walk down memory lane for many.
