Deadpool & Wolverine’s Marvel Studios debut was nothing short of a dream come true with its audacious overpowering of cinematic milestones like Todd Phillips’ R-rated Joker. But even after its billion-dollar victory lap and bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe back from the dead, a newfound upset over a shocking Deadpool & Wolverine theory has struck the dead. Fans recently stumbled upon a scrapped Deadpool & Wolverine concept, sparking a unanimous outcry online over what could have been an even greater game-changer for the biggest blockbuster entry of 2024.

Ryan Reynolds delivered Marvel gold this year, but behind the scenes, countless concepts and storylines were axed before landing on the winning formula that brought Deadpool & Wolverine to life. Executive producer Wendy Jacobson appeared in the Disney+ documentary, Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine to reveal that the ideas explored for the film included a movie where Deadpool appears in other MCU movies, including a shot-for-shot remake of Thor: The Dark World. 

The second Thor film reportedly became the crux of many ideas pitched for Deadpool’s adventure. Jacobson recalled having Deadpool’s Deleted Scenes Extravaganza where they tried to show how Deadpool was present in the MCU the whole time but fans did not see any of his scenes because “they were all on the cutting room floor.” One idea saw Deadpool navigating through his own Thor: The Dark World experience for the first half of the movie.

Meanwhile, the latter half circled a new story with a proper introduction of Wade Wilson in the MCU. Although the storyline never materialized and still managed to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, fans cannot help but question the reason behind scrapping it.

Deadpool & Wolverine managed a superhero climb that was amiss from the box office catalog for some time now. Although fans thought the film was as generously hilarious as it could get, the unearthing of axed Deadpool & Wolverine theories say otherwise. Especially, another storyline exploration where Ryan Reynolds pitched an ultra-low budget indie film starring Wade in a Deadpool suit has fans pleading for its comeback.

The fans even argued how the subplots would have made the ideal post-credit scene if nothing else.

Some comic geeks also see the storyline working like a “perfection” to align with Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking synergy. Although what has been done cannot be undone, considering Marvel’s recent knack of bringing its characters from the dead alongside its plummeted box office situation, who knows if a revival of a scraped concept could also be in the cards they keep holding close to their chest?
