Fans Crown Cillian Murphy as a “feminist icon” for His Preferred Choice of ‘28 Days Later’s’ Ending
The cinematic landscape of Hollywood has borne witness to the mastery of Cillian Murphy time and again over the years. His skillful display of diverse skinning of characters has satiated the audience’s appetite beyond the confinement of one genre. As a result, Murphy’s show of power in his master strokes of cinematic projects has made him the center of attention for many reasons. So much so that a recent interview of his opening up on the preferred ending of his 2002 zombie movie 28 Days Later has been doing rounds of socials, making Murphy the official spokesperson for women.
In a recent conversation series by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Cillian Murphy appeared with Jenelle Riley to speak about the actor’s behind-the-scene hooks and crooks about his works in 28 Days Later, Oppenheimer and Batman Begins. While exchanging the dialogue with Riley, Murphy shed light on how 28 Days Later shot two different endings. On being asked about his preferred closure, the actor recalled liking “the image of two women surviving at the end and… f*ck the men”.

Cillian Murphy even reemphasized being “younger” and “nihilist” to prefer that ending, but he did not nudge from his choice. Furthermore, he mentioned that the makers preferred the optimistic version. However, after his confession, one would have expected the exposure of two endings to stir most of the frenzy among the fans. Instead, the ship took sail the other way.
Surprisingly, the audience was witty enough to take notes of Murphy’s choice of the curtain call, and even more shockingly, that made him the symbol of feminism.
Fans applaud Cillian Murphy as a paragon of women’s empowerment
Despite being a star of global recognition, Cillian Murphy’s humility requires no introduction. Even when the actor was receiving the Golden Globe honor for his performance in Oppenheimer weeks ago, this down-to-earth behavior stole the show in seconds. Now again, his candid response about 28 Days Later is edging fans to drool over Murphy, however this time, it is with a special mention.
Many fans could not help but applaud his comments. And some others found it to be another reason to love him better.

Even though this is not the first time Murphy has taken over his fans with his modest behavior, his pillar-like stand for women easily made him the man of the hour. While it is indeed his plain-spoken demeanor and unpretentious nature that makes him so relatable, his groundedness makes it transparent why he is a fan favorite on and off-screen alike.
