Fans Catch Junkyu Pulling the Iconic Will Smith Meme
Will Smith has become the center of everybody’s modern-day laughter therapy, aka memes. Though his movies are phenomenal and he is a pioneer with his sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the actor has gained quite some rep since his Slapgate incident. And let’s just say, people realized his meme potential. From his sad meme to the very emotionally emphasized ‘Tada’, he has emerged at the center of pop culture right about the time when this famous culture’s art forms gained worldwide popularity.
While one would imagine music traveling across borders, this South Korean singer proved memes do too. Kim Jun Kyu, known by his stage name as Junkyu, is a singer of the boy band TREASURE. And recently, he gained the attention of netizens on Twitter, who quickly drew parallels between him and the Pursuit of Happyness actor. In a candid shot of him being on the stage, we see a very attentive-like poker face of Junkyu while he pulls a Smith’s Tada.

The striking resemblance caught by the fans proves that not just listening and watching art, but that memes are an art that travels across the world. Though the 54-year-old actor hasn’t collaborated with South Korean filmmakers in the past, he has been to Seoul to promote his movies in the past. The actor visited YG Entertainment, the talent agency that hired TREASURE’s Junkyu, on his trip while promoting After Earth in 2013. The actor has also schooled himself in Korean culture in collaboration with Josh Carrot, famously known as the English Korean Man back in 2019.
And while this 90s meme traveled time, memes don’t age, and the fans enjoyed that.
Fans gush at this unforgettable resemblance between Will Smith and Junkyu
Ardent K-pop fans couldn’t stop gushing over Junkyu’s perfect implementation of the step. With a very serious poker face, netizens found him very cute. Between crying and laughing emojis, the adorable attempt at channeling his inner aggression won hearts. The nod at the end of the clip really tells you that Junkyu means business and only business.
The fans’ sentiments are understandable. The sheer delight of the cute aggressiveness works amazingly with contrast with the 90s meme.
Not only this but a fan quickly rushed to create a fully generated image, probably AI-generated, to help you choose your fighter.
He is supposedly pointing to somebody on the same platform as him. A fan called him a “supportive king.”
