As DC forges its way towards its next big flick, Superman: Legacy, Nicholas Hoult has joined the team by taking on the role of Lex Luthor. In the past, this formidable villain that wished to destroy the Justice League hero has been portrayed by megastars like Kevin Spacey and Jesse Eisenberg. So, it is safe to say that Hoult has some big shoes to fill in with his succession. Meanwhile, some netizens have already deemed him fit for it for a surprising reason.
Earlier today, a post appeared on X (previously known as Twitter) highlighting the way that Hoult ended up playing Lex Luthor. Since it was known before that he was contesting with David Coreneswet for the part of Superman, X user Matt Ramos spun a theory. According to him, having lost the role he wanted only to settle for the antagonist’s part may have pushed the actor into his villain arc at the perfect time for him to actually play a villain.
Losing the role of Superman only to be cast as Lex Luthor might’ve been the best way to cast Lex.
this man is gonna play an all-time hater😭 pic.twitter.com/4megqfdGHd

Not only Superman but Hoult is also known to be among those who auditioned for the role of Batman and lost it to Robert Pattinson. While it is common for actors to face rejection often in Hollywood with so many faces applying for the same roles, Twitterati seems to feel that these disappointments are bound to fuel the Sand Castle actor’s conviction in his villain role. Many were even thrilled about it.
Judging by the comments on the X post, it is evident that fans think that this was the best possible scenario for the casting of Lex Luthor.

Unlike the hatred Corenswet got for replacing Cavill as Superman, netizens seemed to be in full agreement with Hoult’s takeover of Lex Luthor. Especially because of the aforementioned theory from Ramos. All are convinced that when he plots against the caped hero, it will not be all acting.
And got passed on for Batman too 😭
He’s coming with the ultimate revenge-plan with this one

Others who had also set eyes on Hoult’s other works like The Menu and Skins felt that he could easily pull it off.
That’s what I was thinking. He’s going to kill it on the big screen. Have you guys seen the menu?

Some felt that James Gunn had done a great job at assembling the cast so far. One user even deemed it “peak casting“.
James Gunn is putting together a great cast—there's no denying it.

Peak casting 💯
Can’t wait to see what he brings in the role— Elijah Dal Broi (@BroiElijah) November 20, 2023
It looks like the majority of netizens believe that all that rejection may be enough to push one over the edge. In this scenario that is exactly the kind of mind space fans want Hoult to be in! Only time will tell if that frustration reflects in his acting too.
