In May this year, Arnold Schwarzenegger did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. During the conversation, he addressed the question if the Terminator franchise has come to an end. “The franchise is not done. I’m done,” said the 76-year-old. According to the actor, the franchise will move forward with new themes that do not involve him. His statement seemingly pointed toward the statement James Cameron shared about the reboot of the franchise.
In an interview with the SmartLess podcast, the director revealed future Terminator films would mark the relaunch of the franchise. “I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy,” explained Cameron. This could involve casting A-list talent like Henry Cavill or Margot Robbie as Terminator characters. However, the British superstar has been involved lately with many projects like the Warhammer series, it seems impossible for him to be a part of it.
