Cue the row of casting speculations. The name, Bond, James Bond, is one every fan knows all too well, and it has been some time since showbiz has been abuzz about the next 007. However, amidst the fanfare of probabilities and Amazon MGM Studios shouldering the mantle of the beloved franchise, former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has given a nuanced take on the forthcoming, leaving fans to agree in unison. 

In a recent conversation with The Telegraph, ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan addressed Amazon’s takeover of the fan-favorite James Bond franchise. Following the rumors of an American carrying the torch of the British spy series, Brosnan said it was a “given” that Daniel Craig’s espionage protégé should be British. Additionally, the actor lamented the acquisition, praising Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson’s “great courage” in passing on the franchise’s creative control after over 3 decades. 

For those uninitiated, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson inherited the James Bond franchise based on Ian Fleming’s novels from their father and celebrated producer Albert Cubby Broccoli. Though Pierce Brosnan mourned the takeover, he thought it was probably the right decision on their part, hoping they still have a considerable take on the matter henceforth. “I hope that [Amazon] handles the work and the character with dignity and imagination and respect,” Brosnan added.

Having played James Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, Pierce Brosnan reflected on his time working with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. And since this Amazon acquisition could very well be a double-edged sword, fans shared a common view with Brosnan.

Pierce Brosnan’s time as 007 under the creative control of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson is something he celebrates to this day. As the world enters into limbo of speculation about what goes on in the franchise after the recent developments, Brosnan expressed a certain degree of uncertainty. Of course, there is no better way to go ahead than to trust the successors, but Brosnan still feels “no one really knows” what could happen to the character under Amazon’s coup. 

It turns out the confusion and the fear are just not his own as fans seemed to be on the same boat as his. 

Yet, many fans could not help but endorse the actor for his non-diplomatic take on the next 007. Especially, after Brosnan’s insistence on how Daniel Craig’s spy successor should be British, fans added his take was music to their ears. Although it remains to be seen if their optimism pays off in the end, all they do hope is this is not just another wishful thinking.
