Even Henry Cavill Felt “Nervous” About Keeping Up With Action Superstar in ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’

Since his breakthrough as Charles Brandon in Showtime’s The Tudors, Henry Cavill has been putting in the hours in Hollywood. His career has been a rollercoaster of versatility, from portraying Greek mythology heroes to suave American spies and even iconic British literary figures. With his impressive range, one might assume he would be as cool as a cucumber on set. Surprisingly, even with such a diverse portfolio, Cavill found himself feeling a bit out of his depth when standing next to the action megastar on set.

During a promotional interview for Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the British actor opened up about the factors that caused his confidence to waver during the film.

Half a decade ago, Henry Cavill took a seat across from Rajeev Masand on CNN News18. When Masand inquired about Cavill’s collaboration with Tom Cruise, the British actor revealed that despite his overwhelming excitement, there was a slight undercurrent of “fear”. He confessed to being a little “nervous” beforehand, but he also underscored that the entire experience was not only thrilling but also an enormous amount of fun. Given Tom Cruise’s reputation, Cavill’s nerves were no surprise. 

Cruise can casually jump off buildings, smoothly navigate through busy streets while chasing cars like it is no big deal, nail that iconic run of his, handle all sorts of flying vehicles effortlessly, hold his breath underwater for a whopping six minutes, and pull off a bunch of other extraordinary skills. The privilege of working alongside someone as iconic as Tom Cruise is bound to yield a myriad of cool memories, and Henry Cavill had some stories to prove it.

A cramped car gave Cavill one of his best moments in Mission: Impossible – Fallout

In 2018, Henry Cavill, The Witcher star, joined Tom Cruise and fellow actors on The Graham Norton Show. During the conversation, Simon Pegg recounted an on-set incident in Paris. Faced with the challenge of squeezing into a cramped car due to his imposing stature, the Superman star decided to disembark and run back instead. As he jogged away, his co-stars spontaneously created parade music with their mouths, leading to uncontrollable laughter among everyone present.

It was one of the coolest moments of my life, having Tom Cruise do that driving next to me,stated Cavill after Simon Pegg’s animated retelling of the anecdote. Following their collaboration, Henry Cavill has consistently applauded Tom Cruise. Beyond the superficial world of capes and spandex, the British actor bowed down to Cruise, acknowledging him as the powerhouse in Hollywood’s action genre. It is safe to say that despite some initial apprehension, Henry Cavill etched a memorable experience into his life through Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
