Despite delivering an obsession-worthy show to the world, Sam Levinson faced his fair share of criticism from fans. As the showrunner of HBO’s hit show Euphoria, Levinson received a lot of backlash from fans owing to the show’s irrelevant nudity and controversial subjects. After the recent controversy over Amy Seimetz’s exit from The Idol, the 38-year-old is again on angry fans’ radar. And now an old interview of the Canadian artist, Petra Collins, started resurfacing on the internet, further inciting online fury.

Petra Collins is popular for her striking direction and her unique visual flair. She rose to fame with her successful collaborations with A-listers like Selena Gomez, Cardi B, and Olivia Rodrigo. In an interview with Punkt from January this year, the director of photography opened up about her connection to Euphoria. The fashion model and actress revealed how she was offered to direct the Emmy Award-Winning series by Levinson. However, the studio later took away the project from her, as she was too young for the role.

Collins also revealed that Levinson took inspiration from her photos to create the American teen drama TV series. Reportedly, she worked for five months to visualize the show’s aesthetics, which were very different from her original style. She also went on to call Euphoria exorcism”. The 30-year-old was immensely heartbroken after she saw a billboard of the show outside her apartment, realizing that it was “a copy” of her work.

During a recent interview with BBC about her collaborations with Rodrigo, the publication mentioned the older interview. This led to the resurfacing of it and an online outrage directed towards Levinson, who was already in the public’s crosshairs.

Fans criticized Levinson for dropping Petra Collins out of Euphoria

Collins is a self-made star who had a very difficult and challenging life. She had severe dyslexia and struggled financially all her life. Even her dream of becoming a dancer shattered after she injured her knees in an accident. After going through so much, it was natural for fans to stand up for the photographer. Fans expressed their sentiment online and flooded Twitter, now X, with furious responses to the injustice.

However, there was also a section of netizens who asked for proof to get to reach any conclusions. They were rather rational and refused to believe anything that trended on the Internet.

Fans also pointed out how it was unfair for the makers to fire someone just because they were “too young”. They talked about the ruthlessness of the movie business and criticized Levinson for stealing another artist’s ideas.

Additionally, people also shared many stills from Collins’ work and appreciated the director saying she will always be famous. As season 3 of Euphoria has been on halt owing to the SAG-AFTRA strike, this outrage from fans could lead to a decline in the show’s viewership.
