Emmy Nominated for ‘The White Lotus’, Why Doesn’t Sydney Sweeney Find Comfort in Similar Roles?
The life and career of Sydney Sweeney are a perfect mix of hard work and luck. For example, her amazing performance as the dumb blonde Cassie in Euphoria became a barrier for her to get the role of a smart person. But then luck chimed in, and Sweeney played the role of Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus and also earned an Emmy nomination for it. However, the 25-year-old was scared to play it at first.
In her interview on the Awards Chatter podcast of the Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney revealed some fascinating facts about her role in The White Lotus. The actress played Olivia Mosbaccher in the show who is a brainy and sarcastic girl. The show is a dark comedy and that is a genre Sweeney had never dealt with before. Hence, the actress was scared to play her role.

The actress said in the podcast, “I for the longest time have been very scared of comedy.” When the host asked her the reason, she said that she has always been a part of dramedies like Euphoria and The Handmaid’s Tale or Sharp Objects. Hence, these kinds of shows have become her comfort zone, and it was hard for her to break the shell.
Her character in the show was not a likable character, although she received huge applause from critics and fans for nailing it. But perhaps what she got the most out of her acting career so far was the chance to star in a romantic comedy.
Sydney Sweeney waited for a long time to do a rom-com
The Euphoria actress mostly did very serious and emotional roles since the beginning of her career. However, The White Lotus gave her career a different direction and Sweeney realized that she was good at comedy, too. In fact, she and her fans were waiting to see her in a rom-com for a long time.

Sweeney’s dream came true when she signed a rom-com with Will Gluck this year. Her highly anticipated rom-com with Glen Powell called Anyone But You will release on December 15 this year. The actress has enjoyed her time on the set of this rom-com and accepted that she has never laughed this much on a film set before.
Apart from Anyone But You, yet another film of Sweeney is going to release on May 29: Her biopic called Reality based on the NSA whistleblower Reality Winner.
