Marvel's venture into streaming series on Disney+ has significantly boosted the studio's recognition and reception. However, the studio might be jeopardizing its reputation with fans due to the perceived mistreatment of Beau DeMayo, the creator of X-Men '97. DeMayo was the head writer for the first two seasons of X-Men '97, the successor to Marvel Studios’ classic '90s animated series which is now vying for an Emmy Award in the Animated Program category. This backlash stems from troubling concerns raised by DeMayo, leading to growing criticism and skepticism from fans online.

Beau DeMayo recently took to X to inform fans that Marvel and Disney have not contacted him about attending this year's Emmy Awards for the show, X-Men '97, which he primarily created. While this situation is already unusual, DeMayo also shared that his team has reached out to the studio and network for an explanation and follow-up. Earlier in March, DeMayo and Marvel unexpectedly parted ways just before the show's premiere, leaving many to speculate about the reasons behind their split.

With the scripting and continuation of the legacy handed over to Matthew Chauncey, this abrupt change by Marvel Studios sparked skepticism among fans. DeMayo later clarified that he contributed significantly to season 2 but also announced that he would not be as heavily involved in production, casting, design, music, and other aspects as he was with season 1. Although Brad Winderbaum did not classify this change as a firing, fans widely speculated that creative differences were likely the main reason behind the decision.

Fans react strongly over Beau DeMayo’s missing invite at the Emmys for X-Men ‘97

The MCU fans were thrilled by the recent inclusion of X-Men characters in Marvel’s flagship release, Deadpool & Wolverine. However, the simultaneous change in writers for the animated series, 'X-Men '97—from Beau DeMayo to Matthew Chauncey—left many disappointed and worried about the disruption of the show's legacy. While fans initially comforted themselves with the fact that DeMayo’s role in the second season would be relatively minor, his concerns following the series' Emmy nomination have now aggravated the subdued skepticism about the network.

Many fans supported the writer, advocating for an invitation for his attendance, while others sensed underhanded politics at play.
