Henry Cavill gave the key to break the Kryptonian

The former The Witcher star became a colossal hit when he appeared as the undefeatable DC hero. During his interview with The Guardian in 2015, he opened up about the beloved character. The interviewer pointed out that Superman was the most troubled hero they had seen until then. He forcefully hid his light under a bushel, an immortal tormented by survivor’s guilt. Agreeing with the statement, Cavill admitted Superman was a complex whom people thought Kryptonian could beat. However, it was not true.

According to the English actor, the one who could beat Superman was Superman himself. He added Superman’s own moral choices were messing with him. Therefore, by beginning with storytelling from this point, one can explore more profound and engaging content. Furthermore, he continued talking about the reason he chose to play the remarkable role.

The 40-year-old admitted his Superman story felt like chasing someone for the first time. According to him, attempting to merge with the character seemed to align with the character’s flow. And as the actor moved ahead, he really started to expand. If the Enola Holmes actor continued to play the character, he would get the chance to make such an expansion.

Unfortunately, James Gunn axed his version of the hero and will introduce a new one soon.

Gunn has often spoken about not having any personal issues with the Justice League actor. The reason for rebooting the entire DC Universe was to provide a fresh direction for DC stories. After axing Cavill’s Superman, Gunn announced how he wanted to tell the story of the DC’s most-loved hero. He wanted to portray Superman’s story from the beginning.

That was the main reason he had to fire Henry Cavill and hire a younger actor for his project. The film, Superman: Legacy, which Gunn himself had written, will see David Corenswet as the lead hero and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Superman: Legacy will hit the theaters on the 11th of July, 2025. On the other hand, The Tudors actor is moving on with exciting projects in his professional life, too.
