According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Denis Villeneuve is ready to dive back into the world of Dune. The acclaimed director revealed his change of heart regarding a post-Part Two break. Villeneuve revealed that he had plans of taking a break in the woods post the much glory and extravaganza of Dune 2. However, "the woods weren't really suiting me,” he revealed. Thus, he think it would be better to “go back behind the camera faster” than he thought. 

Villeneuve confirmed he's currently in the "writing zone" for DUNE: MESSIAH carefully avoiding reference to it as 'Dune: Part Three'. The subtle distinction has set the tone for the filmmaker perspective to explore a fresh narrative approach or title structure for the upcoming film. As fans eagerly await the next chapter, Villeneuve's cautious wording hints at a potentially surprising direction for the beloved franchise.

By sidestepping the part three label, Villeneuve has ignited speculation about the film's creative divergence from the expected sequel. 

As stated in the interview, Denis Villeneuve views Dune 1 and Dune 2 as a single entity, considering the story complete with the second instalment. For him, the two movies are like one entity, done and dusted on their part. “It's a movie made in two parts. It's finished, it's done," he stated. The conclusion paved the way for a new chapter, which he aims to execute in his upcoming flick. 

Villeneuve's next installment, DUNE: MESSIAH, is set 12 years after part two and explores the characters' evolved journey. Drawn from Frank Herbert's sequel, Villeneuve saw potential in this new direction. The third installment will conclude Paul Atreides' arc, marking the end of Villeneuve's involvement in the Dune universe, despite Herbert's additional four sequels. The production is slated for 2026, with no release date set as of now.
