When he was in rehab and picked up the book, The Odd Couple actor saw a quote, “Drinkers think they are drinking to escape, but what they are really doing is trying to get over a disease they don’t know they have.

As soon as Perry read this quote, it struck him this was it. He thought the book written in 1939 was about him. And this was the reason he reacted differently than his friends when he first drank the alcohol. He finally understood it was a mental disorder and not merely a habit.
