Arnold Schwarzenegger made sure that whatever field he stepped in, he made it his own. This stands true for bodybuilding, which he started at the age of fifteen, and even for acting and politics that he often describes as his dream career. While all the aforementioned careers thrive on passion and are not the first options when looking for stable careers, the Austrian Oak proved that they, too, could become one. However, he did not achieve this feat by simply following his passion.

At 75, the Austrian Oak is an established millionaire and is still thriving in the arguably decrepit industry that is Hollywood. What many do not know is that Schwarzenegger did not take the road many take to the city of stars. And after setting an example, he is advising others who are looking to pursue their passion to do the same.

The Austrian Oak, as he has come to be known, has always strayed from the norm. And doing so has made him the talented overachieving global star that he is today. And while he is one of the brightest showpieces in the city of stars, Schwarzenegger did not dive headfirst into it. Despite already being a bodybuilding legend, Schwarzenegger opted to complete his studies and become a real estate agent to not be a penniless actor. Therefore, in his recent newsletter, Schwarzenegger said, “Don’t listen to these ‘follow your passion people’ who tell you to quit your job.”

Schwarzenegger’s plight with what he regards as ‘follow your passion people’ is pretty straightforward. He believes that if you pack up everything and start listening to your heart, you will be making a lot of choices solely to survive.

He uses his real estate agent career to put his point across. Owing to his stable income through the real estate business, he was not desperate to take on every role that came his way. And therefore, he had ample time to pick and choose what roles would make him a global star.

At the time when The Terminator actor took his first steps into the industry, he had not quit bodybuilding. However, he was far too smart to be trying to have his cake and eating it too and quit it quite early on. This left him with $27,000 of the life savings he had acquired by pumping iron since his pubescent years. As he invested them in real estate, Schwarzenegger continued to audition in the movie industry. However, he only chose roles slated to become box-office successes.

This is how it did not take much time for him to bounce back after an average like Hercules in New York to make a timeless classic like Conan the Barbarian. And soon enough become James Cameron’s favorite with The Terminator franchise and ultimately a global star.
