Before Disney took over 20th Century Fox, Ryan Reynolds teased fans with the idea of Deadpool 3 being a road trip escapade with Deadpool and Wolverine. Many fans dismissed it as wishful thinking and no one truly expected Hugh Jackman to don the Wolverine claws again, especially under Disney's reign. However, ever since photos of Jackman, clad in the comic-accurate suit of Wolverine, surfaced on the web, fans knew something extraordinary was in the works. Even so, not everyone was sure about rolling out the welcome mat for Jackman's Marvel comeback.

Marvel’s mastermind, in particular, had doubts about this idea and even had some words of caution for the Logan actor.

Everyone can agree that in 2017, Logan gave Hugh Jackman a fitting send-off for his time playing the mutant hero. And, just like fans, even Marvel big-shot Kevin Feige had his reservations about messing with that picture-perfect ending. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Feige shared his thoughts on the return of Wolverine in Marvel. The producer had advised the 55-year-old actor not to “undo” the “greatest ending in history” his character got. “Hugh. Don’t come back,” said Feige.

Even though Jackman seemed to have nodded along with Feige's concerns, when the opportunity to team up with Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool presented itself, he could not say no to it. "I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. I just knew it," said The Prestige star. Nevertheless, Deadpool & Wolverine might still prove that Feige's fears had some weight behind them.

Though the excitement is sky-high for Deadpool & Wolverine, there are a few factors that may not make Jackaman’s comeback as impactful as Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield’s. 

One of the main reasons people were hyped about Andrew Garfield's and Tobey Maguire's return in Spider-Man: No Way Home was because their time as Spider-Man ended rather abruptly. They did not get a proper farewell. And Garfield's Spider-Man did not even get a proper character arc; it all ended tragically with Gwen's death. On top of that, Garfield received a lot of flak for his portrayal of Spider-Man. However, over the years, many have come to appreciate his interpretation, partly due to hindsight and partly because of his growing popularity, which made people eager to give him another shot.

In Hugh Jackman's case, though, he was widely adored as Wolverine for 17 years. He starred in 4 X-Men flicks and even had his own trilogy. Deadpool & Wolverine is following right after Logan, which already felt like the perfect ending. This might dampen the impact of Wolverine's comeback on the universe, especially considering how difficult it has become to satisfy fans these days. However, seeing Wolverine in his '90s suit and the prospect of Rated-R banter between him and Deadpool is still bound to be a breath of fresh air.
