Does Ryan Reynolds Really Hate Wesley Snipes? Will His Blade be on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’?

Before emerging as Marvel's beloved Merc with a Mouth, Ryan Reynolds was already involved in the Blade trilogy, featuring the Marvel Comics character played by Wesley Snipes. While Reynolds now occupies a cherished role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his stint in Blade: Trinity was less than stellar, as was his connection with the star player.

Consequently, despite plans for Deadpool & Wolverine to bring in a series of superhero cameos from the franchise, the uncertain relationship between Snipes and Reynolds casts doubt on Blade’s return in this upcoming chapter. However, it is important to understand what led to the widely perceived conflict between them.

Ryan Reynolds, known for his affable personality, found himself at odds with Wesley Snipes during his time on Blade: Trinity. In a 2004 interview with IGN, Reynolds acknowledged that he and Snipes were polar opposites in their approach. Reynolds credited Snipes' method acting for keeping their interactions strictly professional, where he only ever encountered Snipes as Blade, not Wesley. The Canadian actor recalled a moment while filming when he confided in Jessica Biel about his concerns that Snipes might hate him, unaware that the cameras were still rolling.

Interestingly, that shot made it to the actual movie. Reflecting on another incident, Reynolds described attempting to psychoanalyze Snipes in a lighthearted manner, only to fear Snipes might physically retaliate. Despite his efforts to break the tension and elicit laughter from Snipes between takes, Reynolds conceded that their interactions remained strained, though he hoped Snipes found some amusement internally.

With the priority-tagged release of MCU's Deadpool & Wolverine just around the corner, new teasers have made their way to keep fans on their toes. A recent image from the film depicts Deadpool and Wolverine in a wasteland setting surrounded by raiders. In the background of the photo, fans noticed a cameo appearance by Toad, alongside another figure resembling a variant of Blade. It is clear from the photos that this is not Wesley Snipes' Blade, and considering his troubled history with Ryan Reynolds, it seems unlikely.

Speculation abounds that it might be the Blade TV series version, portrayed by Kirk Jones. Although confirming whether the character in the picture is indeed Jones as Blade remains challenging, considering the meta-joke about Marvel TV/movie characters whose stories were abruptly halted, incorporating Jones' portrayal of Blade from the short-lived Blade: The Series could seamlessly fit the narrative, even if Snipes' iteration might not.
