The speculation about Ryan Reynolds having a twin brother named 'Gordon Reynolds' has gained quite the traction as of late. Being fueled especially by the release of Deadpool & Wolverine wherein the movie credits, Nicepool, the alternative to Deadpool the character, is listed as being played by an actor named 'Gordon Reynolds', who, so conveniently, bears a striking resemblance to Ryan Reynolds himself. However, the truth is far more entertaining when dug in deep.

Ryan Reynolds, in fact, does not have a twin brother. Gordon Reynolds is a fictional character he created for a comedy video for GQ's 2016 Men of the Year issue. In the video, Ryan is interviewed by his 'twin' brother, Gordon, who is portrayed as cynical, rude, and everything Ryan is apparently not. The interview plays out, escalating in insults to the point that eventually leads Reynolds to walk out of the interview. An even more hilarious addition to the interview is Jake Gyllenhaal's meek appearance in the background, caught in frame holding up the boom mic, upon being addressed. Reynolds' talent in comedic writing when it comes to satire reaches a peak in this scenario portrayal.

Hereafter, Gordon's character was so well-received that he made subsequent appearances in videos with Reynolds. In 2018, Gordon appeared in another interview to promote Reynolds' gin company, Aviation, and in 2021, he showed up in a video discussing the acquisition of Reynolds' company, Maximum Effort Marketing, by MNTN. In each appearance, Gordon's crass and insulting behavior adds to the humor, making it clear that he is a comedic persona rather than a real person. Reynolds' similarly maintains a huge attachment with the characters that have brushed by him, so much so that he simply had to pay homage to Guys, one of the fan-favorites of his, in place of a much more suave option of Star Wars, for Halloween.

With Reynolds' universe getting more and more connected and tied together as the actor creates and expands an entire franchise under his own name, Gordon Reynolds' existence serves as an outlet for his untapped reserves of humor.

Nicepool being credited as Gordon Reynolds, a hilarious Meta-Joke

The humor of crediting Nicepool as being played by Gordon Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine lies does in fact, in its meta-joke nature. Nicepool is a Deadpool variant introduced in the film, characterized by being friendly, lacking a burnt face, and sporting long, flowing hair. The contrast between the affable Nicepool and the vulgar Deadpool, along with Reynolds' of sorts contender in the Deadpool & Wolverine fame, played by Hugh Jackman, the gruff Logan creates a hysterical dynamic between the three characters.

For those familiar with the Gordon Reynolds character from the GQ videos, the credit is a subtle Easter egg that pays off the long-running gag. It's a niche joke that fits perfectly with the history of humor in the Deadpool films, rewarding observant fans with an extra layer of comedy.

Gordon Reynolds for sure serves as a peeling counter to Reynolds' own, original self. But the idea of having a brother or two may not be an entirely foreign concept to him, making one wonder what his actual relationship with them might be.

The Reynolds clan: Ryan Reynolds' real brothers, worlds apart from Gordon Reynolds

While Gordon Reynolds is a fictional creation, Ryan Reynolds does have three real brothers: Jeff, Terry, and Patrick Reynolds. All having grown up together in Vancouver, Canada, the brothers share a close bond, and Reynolds has often credited them for shaping his sense of humor. Each of his brothers, however, has taken up paths quite different from that of Reynolds' own, one being a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and another being a teacher at British Columbia in Canada.

The Reynolds brothers experienced a profound loss when their father, James Reynolds, passed away in 2015 from Parkinson's disease. Reynolds has been actively involved in raising awareness and supporting research for the disease. In an interview, Reynolds noted that their father's illness brought the brothers even closer, strengthening their bond during a challenging time.
