Does Ryan Reynolds Have a Dave Matthews Tattoo? Here’s Every Ink Reel Life ‘Deadpool’ Flaunts
Who doesn’t like the pulsating and powerful beats of rock music? While the saying is true for humans, it also extends to cinematic characters. This was taken up a notch when the funny and quick-witted Merc with a Mouth made a unique allusion to the Dave Matthews Band in Deadpool 2. While the character was extremely outspoken about his admiration for the American band, does the guy behind the mask, Ryan Reynolds, share the same sentiment?
Reynolds’ humor and sarcasm-filled demeanor are well-known, as seen by the run of comedy films he has done. However, what many people don’t know is that his body art has a special connection to the Dave Matthews Band.

When Reynolds’ character remarked, “Are you Dave Matthews?” It was a rare fusion of the cinematic world with one of America’s favorite touring bands. Not only was the character a fan of the rock band, but so was Ryan Reynolds, as proven by a ‘coffee strain‘ and a ‘fire dancer’ tattoo on his right leg which was captured beautifully in the 2015 hit Mississippi Grand. Interestingly, the tattoos were inspired by DMB’s album cover art for ‘Before These Crowded Streets’.
Aside from the DMB-inspired body art, the Green Lantern actor has two more tattoos. The first is the “Know Thyself” art on his wrist. The actor previously stated that the tattoo was about him disappointing his parents. The second one on the list is his Nine O’clock Gun tattoo on his left wrist, which was to honor his hometown’s custom of firing a gun every night at nine o’clock. Not to forget the fake chest tattoo he had for his brief cameo in Hobbs & Shaw.
While the actor undoubtedly has a good number of tattoos on his body, in a previous interview, he stated that he was not pleased with any of them.

While having three tattoos would indicate a passion for the art, the Red Notice actor had a different experience. In a 2015 interview with The New Yorker, the actor admitted that he despises all of his tattoos, which he had inscribed when he was very young. Furthermore, he made a great joke about his “Know Thyself” tattoo, claiming that it meant “Cut here.” Following that, the actor confessed why he despises them so much.
Aside from the fact that they are too “corny,” Reynolds added that it takes roughly 3 hours in make-up to cover everything up for a movie. The actor also claimed that his wife Blake Lively advised him to keep the tattoos to “record” the decisions he had made in his life. While body art is conceivable, what is not conceivable is Ryan Reynolds’ ability to convert something he despises into something humorous.
