There was a time when Will Smith was pigeonholed into comedy and action, but he has since transcended those boundaries. Over the years, he expanded his horizons, proving the kind of versatility he can bring to the table as an actor. From science fiction to biography and intricate drama, Will Smith explored the vast ocean of cinematic genres with finesse, just like a fish. Thinking about it, has this versatile actor ever taken on the role of a “fish” in his career?

In the past, Will Smith has portrayed an animal-like character in the 2007 movie, I Am Legend. However, to imagine him playing a fish is almost like imagining a pirate hosting a tea party for stuffed animals. 

Did Will Smith ever play a fish? 

Will Smith did not physically morph into a fish with gills and a tail, but he did lend his voice to an animated fish, Oscar. He played the main protagonist of the 2004 American animated comedy film, Shark Tale. The movie proved to be a massive success and even went on to win an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature. Apart from Smith’s streaked wrasse fish, the movie also garnered a lot of attention because of the involvement of other Hollywood luminaries. 

Martin Scorsese and Angelina Jolie are just some of the legends who added their illustrious presence to the movie. Will Smith even received a prized blimp after winning the favorite voice from an animated movie. Surprisingly, this award was presented to him by Chris Rock. However, Smith seemed to be in better spirits back then than his 2022 debacle.  Jada Pinkett Smith is now calling for a reconciliation between Smith and Rock. 

Given that he had no problem taking up the role of a fish, Will Smith has also proven that he has no difficulties swimming past one of the greatest controversies in Hollywood.

Will Chris Rock reconcile with the Smiths?

Jada Pinkett Smith’s memoir, Worthy’s promotion on podcasts and interviews, had recurring questions about the infamous Oscar event. She has been candid about the incident and talked about her equation with the comedian. Jada shared having faith in reconciliation between Will and Rock once they “figure out how to resolve this whole thing”. The actress went on to call the slapgate “the holy joke, the holy slap, and the holy lessons.” However, Chris Rock is reportedly upset with Jada mentioning his name in interviews. 

Jada, during a promotional interview for her book, revealed that Chris Rock once asked her out. A source told Daily Mail that Rock wants Jada “to keep his name out of her damn mouth”. He was reportedly frustrated with the way Jada was continuously bringing his name amidst her controversies. Jada’s assertions may have led Chris Rock to feel like a fish out of water. But Will Smith’s portrayal of the fish, Oscar, will always be a memorable highlight in his career.
