It is no secret that Sydney Sweeney is a natural athlete, having been involved in sports her entire life. And although she wanted to do her own ice skating scenes, the actress quickly realized it was not as easy as it looked. In an interview with tmrw, she admitted, “I’m a very athletic person, but I couldn’t do that to save my life.” Even so, Sweeney took several skating lessons to make her scenes more believable.
To film the skating shots, Euphoria enlisted the help of Danielle Kahle, a top-tier skater in America. The dreamlike ice skating montage was featured in the season finale. As a child, Cassie’s father wanted her to become a skater, and she lived out that childhood fantasy when she closed her eyes to the music in that scene. And the emotional depth of the moment was made even more powerful by the choice of music.

Sweeney revealed in a 2019 interview that the song initially used during the skating montage was not the one that made it into the final cut.

One of the show’s most iconic musical moments came during the ice skating scene, perhaps the most powerful sync in the series so far. The scene is forever linked to Arcade Fire’s ‘My Body Is a Cage,’ but that was not the song the montage was originally filmed to.

Sydney Sweeney told Entertainment Tonight that when they first shot the ice skating routine, it was set to Lana Del Rey’s ‘Young and Beautiful.’ But Sweeney did give her approval of the final choice. Expressing how perfect Arcade Fire’s track was, the 27-year-old actress stated, “The lyrics are so spot-on.” And with the magic of the soundtrack, Danielle Kahle’s grace, and Sweeney’s raw performance which is only about to go 'crazier', the scene has become nothing short of iconic.
