Barbie kick-started the 2024 Oscar nominations with a wild head-start. Unsurprisingly, Oppenheimer and the Greta Gerwig directorial have taken a massive lead in the incoming nods with the duo occupying the Best Supporting Actor and Actress nods. Incidentally, Ryan Gosling also contributed to Barbie more beneath the surface with his song – ‘I’m Just Ken’ taking home the Best Original Song nomination.

Gosling, however, personally did not receive any credit for the same. The Academy recognized Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt as the writers for the piece. Traditionally, the singer does not receive a nomination credit for this category. Therefore, even if the Blade Runner 2049 actor’s song does win, he would likely not walk to the stage to receive an Oscar or send a speech.

In overall terms, the 43-year-old actor has just one Oscar 2024 nod as the Best Supporting Actor for Barbie. Adding depth to his role as Ken, his performance had won hearts, with many pointing out his poignant contribution to the narrative as a major factor for the movie’s success. Additionally, he also received co-star America Ferrera in the Best Supporting Actress category for the same movie.

In terms of Barbie snubs, Greta Gerwig missed out on a Best Director Oscar nod. Meanwhile, Margot Robbie also lost out on earning a place in the Best Actress category. Moreover, while Barbie will still compete for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture, Robbie will officially sit outside of an acting nod at the Oscars 2024 race.

Barbie made straight two entries in the Best Song (Original Score) category with Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ and Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ Yet, with Gosling competing officially only in the Best Supporting Actor category, his chances of a 2024 Oscars win are highly competitive. However, Margot Robbie may still win laurels despite losing out on acting awards. The Wolf of Wall Street actress did not only star in, but also produced Barbie.

Thus, every single nomination or win for the flick will also land in her kitty. By the time the official counts ended, her flick stood with eight total nominations. Meanwhile, its twin release, Oppenheimer took the lead with thirteen total nominations. Despite a strong show at the Golden Globes 2024, whether Barbie manages to win big at the Oscars 2024 falls as a major question after today’s tide of nominations.
