Mannerism and discipline may be the regal tropes defining the royal fold. But once someone takes the regal exit, mincing words may not be the ultimate way to get through. Case in point: Prince Harry. Although it has been half a decade since he held the hands of Meghan Markle and left their royal working roles at the palace for good, the Prince has fumbled at every turn because of the expertise that does not allow him a break. However, the Duke of Sussex is flipping the script with some allegedly thinly veiled jabs, landing headfirst on Donald Trump after King Charles’ invitation.
The swipes practically follow Trump’s attacks on Prince Harry and Joe Biden’s administration.

Shortly after King Charles’ invitation to Donald Trump for an unprecedented state visit, Prince Harry reportedly made a surprise appearance at the Upfront Summit in Los Angeles. His appearance comes hot on the heels of Keir Starmer’s meeting with Trump, and the Daily Mail speculates that the LA summit presence may have ruffled a few presidential feathers. The Prince addressed their royal exit five years ago and how he has since approached his work “through the lens of service.”

Then, the Duke suddenly jumped into politics, highlighting that ordinary people experience a “detrimental effect” when individuals with power and control lose their sense of morality and empathy. “This would be a great time to talk about how a sickness in leadership,” be it in the world of tech or politics, can impact people, especially when public service is abandoned for the sake of personal gain.
Though Prince Harry did not directly name Trump, the timing may have been a reason for the outlet to speculate the connection as a swipe. But he did announce an apolitical stance in between, dazing the audience.
Prince Harry calls his apolitical perspective a royal trope
Prince Harry and Donald Trump have not exactly shared a smooth relationship. In fact, they have been quite opposed to that. But as the tension rose on whether his appearance at the Upfront Summit was a critical take on the president, he told the attendees how his royal upbringing blessed him with a unique apolitical ethos. “I’m not to be caught in the divide between left or right views,” he said.

What turned the heads, however, was the Duke’s next revelation that he had never been allowed to vote. “My personal experiences overseas taught me that when you put others first, you build stronger, more sustainable systems,” he continued. This could have been simply an inspirational speech in generics. However, the Stateside tensions with the Sussexes may have given fuel to the conspiracy that his address caught the president in the crossfire.
